Memorial Day

June 1, 2010

This year’s memorial day weekend was an eventful one. A birthday for dad, lots of swimming, and a visit from Henry’s favorite friend, Uncle Tom. Henry’s preference for Tom over his parents is profound and unabashed, and he tried as hard as he could to monopolize Tom’s time while he was here. Aside from Tom-based playtime, there was a trip to the lake, a sleepover with Cousin Hanna, a hike on the greenbelt, some time at the springs, lots of tinkertoys, and plenty of backyard playtime. Little George even got in the action with his very first swim. All in all, it was a big weekend for everyone, as evidenced below.

Summertime

May 23, 2010

OK, I know it’s been a long time since we posted here. But we’ve been busy. This having two kids thing really cuts into your spare time. Not that we’re complaining. We’ve been having a lot of fun the last month or so. We’ve seen a lot of family, been out to the lake, attended some birthday parties, gone to a play, and watched jugglers at the school carnival. And somewhere in there, Henry and Dorie both got their hair chopped off. George, for his part, continues to get fatter and cuter every day, and has even started to sample some non-boob food. He is also starting to notice that his older brother might just be the most compelling show around.

Henry Speaks

May 23, 2010

So, these are the results of a brief interview I conducted with Henry a couple of months back, around his 4th Birthday. Yes, I am just now getting around to posting it. We’ve been busy….

What is the best thing that you can do when you are 4 years old?

Run really fast.

What is the best thing to do outside?

Scream.

Tell me how it feels to be a kid.

Great.

What is your favorite thing to learn about?

The human body and plumbing.

What is your favorite thing?

Frozen pineapple, the human body, and plumbing.

Who is the best person that there is?

Me.

Who is the smartest person?

Me.

Where do you get your modesty from?

What is modesty?

What will you do when you get older?

You mean when I get 63-80-70?

Sure. What will you do then?

I would run all over the place on top of your friend Uncle Tom who talks in a doggy doctor voice.

[*Ed note: long story….]

Tell me about your little brother.

The first thing I want to tell you about him is that he’s cute. The second thing is nothing. I just had one thing.

Henry, what do you want on your birthday cake?

I want a picture of a brain, with a spinal cord stuck on top of it, with some muscles and organs on top of that. And that cake, that has people on it, will be for monsters, because I’m going to invite lots of monsters to my party. I will invite them out of the computer.

Tell me about your family.

It’s cute.

Tell me about your school.

Also cool. I’m done.
