The End of Summer

August 23rd, 2010  |  by admin

Although it is still unacceptably hot outside, our summer break has come to an end, and school has begun again (…satisfied grin…).

The last few weeks of summer might have been the most fun of all. After returning from a quick trip to Bastrop, we caught our breaths and headed down to Port Aransas for a long beach weekend with the Pickle family. To say Henry enjoyed this time at the beach would be a bit of an understatement. Henry’s enthusiasm for the beach is naked and boundless. He doesn’t stop moving from the time he arrives until he is dragged away, and he has made it clear that if possible, he would like us to move there. We told him we’d think about it.

George, for his part, enjoyed the beach the way a baby does, which is to say he cautiously dipped his toes, took a nap, and soiled his swim diaper. He is just shy of crawling and he continues to watch his brother as though he were some sort of demigod walking among mortals. He is also at the point where he wants to see how everything—toys, the floor, the dog—tastes.

We returned from the beach just in time for the first day of school, and are now settling in for a return to normal life. We’re exhausted, but it has been a great summer.
